Andover 20 Basingstoke 5
It was a momentous day for women’s rugby in north Hampshire last Sunday as these two clubs who met for the first time ever in a women’s league rugby fixture at the Goodship ground, and it was Serenity Hair sponsored Andover who came away with a bonus point win in a pulsating encounter.
Andover have worked hard and developed significantly over the summer and it showed with fantastic carries from the forwards who also dominated the line-out and managed to do enough against the powerful
Basingstoke scrum.
Andover used the home advantage well to play with a variety of attacks leading to four fantastic tries.
The ‘All Blacks’ Lottie
Morris led the way with a well taken brace and there were tries too for Lauren Boorn and the all action Lisa Phillimore as Andover proved just too strong for a
Determined visiting side.
Basingstoke themselves played very well and pulled try of
Their own back after a ten
minute spell of concerted pressure.
But the Andover defence was very strong and there was no chance of a visiting comeback as in the end the home side ran out winners and took all five points on offer.
After the game coach Conor Green said’ we have come a long way in the last couple of years, but this is a group who work hard at their game and are still developing. We have a lot more to come and on this showing so do Basingstoke. The future of the female game in North Hampshire looks very bright.
