Saxon Safety sponsored Andover Rugby club’s senior men received a huge boost recently when professional Premiership referee Anthony Woodthorpe joined their coaching team.
Anthony, who can regularly be seen with the whistle on television officiating some of the country’s top games, has recently moved to the area and comes to the club after previously coaching at professional club environments.
Andover’s Director of Rugby Andy Waite said “Anthony was introduced to the club when he came along to touch rugby in the summer and met some of the guys. It was they who suggested he should join the coaching team and we went from there. He only started a few weeks ago but he’s already made a real impact on how we are approaching things. He’s a great guy and has been thoroughly welcomed by the players and other coaches alike.”
Anthony himself said “It’s been great to be able to get involved with my local club and have been able to get stuck in straight away. I have enjoyed how quickly the lads have made me feel part of the team and I hope to bring a different perspective, helping the lads be the best they can be.”
